Oracle JDK and OpenJDK use direct pointers: fast access, but pointers need to be updated if GC moves surviving objects.

- Oracle JDK and OpenJDK use direct pointers. The advantage is fast access; the disadvantage is that if garbage collection moves surviving objects, the pointers need to be updated.
